The voice behind the book

MEET
PROFESSOR
WAGNER.

Business executive turned professor. Curious observer of championship coaches. On a mission to help the next generation of business leaders rise and shine.

Why I wrote The Trophy Trap

WHAT'S IT ALL FOR,
IF YOU DON'T
PASS IT ON?

After a career leading iconic consumer brands including Hot Wheels, L.O.L. Surprise! and Razor, I stepped away from the president's chair to teach at Loyola Marymount University.

In the classroom, I kept seeing the same leadership gap: talented people earn promotions because they are excellent at their jobs, then discover that leading people requires a different set of skills.

So I went to the people who build high-performance teams for a living—championship athletic coaches. I interviewed them, observed them at work, and asked what helped their people grow. The lessons changed how I think about leadership.

DON'T JUST
BUILD RESULTS.
BUILD PEOPLE.

My hope is that the book—and everything that grows from it—helps you become a more authentic, intentional leader. Not a copy of someone else's leadership style. The best version of your own.
